St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School

Collective Worship - Prayer & Liturgy

At St. Joseph’s Catholic Primary school we believe that daily worship and prayer brings everyone together into the presence of God. It draws together our community; school, home and parish and is our loving response, in word and action to God. Each member of staff has a responsibility to share their own faith experience and build positive relationships giving daily witness to the Gospel values.

Worship is an intrinsic part of our school life and is an opportunity to pray, reflect, celebrate and develop a greater understanding of our faith. Collective worship takes place throughout the school on a daily basis in whole school, year group or classroom liturgies. As a school community we regularly celebrate Holy Mass with the Parish throughout the liturgical year. Celebrating the Eucharist enables all members of our Catholic community to deepen their relationship with God.

Pupils have a wide range of opportunities to engage deeply in prayer and liturgy. Pupils show a deep understanding of the importance of prayer and can provide many examples of times they prayed for members of the school community.  Prayer is central to school life. Pupils know their scripture very well and can quote passages to explain why they should act in a certain way. The richness of Catholic prayer is celebrated and staff model this in an exemplary way.
